Custom Pension Rules
A pension normally uses a plan from the catalog of 72. A plan that is not in the catalog can carry its own rules instead: the benefit formula, final compensation, vesting and eligibility, minimum retirement age, sick leave credit, supplements, the cost-of-living formula, contributions, payout taxability, and survivor elections.
This is a connector-only feature. The app’s plan picker offers catalog plans only.
- Check the pension plans list first. If a common plan is missing, ask for it to be added.
- Give the connector the rules from your plan handbook: the multiplier and how it changes with age or service, how final pay is averaged, vesting years, unreduced and reduced retirement ages, the COLA formula, and the survivor options with their reductions.
- The connector attaches the rules to the job’s income stream. From there the pension behaves like a catalog plan.
The app shows the pension as Custom plan with the rules read-only. You can still edit the rest of the income stream there. A custom plan gets no state tax treatment as a government or military pension, since only catalog plans carry that.
